Great stuff. I had begun to think that there would never be a connection proven to any of the McGimpsey's featuring here. In one you have pushed back my knowledge of family history. I have copied your latest entry and sent it on to my Mother. I am sure she will be fascinated: she still hankers after home and is intensely curious as well. However, she is not, yet, versed in the ways of the Internet or e-mail. My father does the typing at their end!
Terrence, I think, was her cousin. He was the son of my grandfather's brother Harry. I will confirm this. I remember being told this sad tale. He may have had a brother and children.
I am curious about the reference to New Zealand. While I must have been something of a sponge in childhood to soak up various (disconnected) snippets of family history, this is a reference to which I am not familiar. Similarly, the erection of the memorial to which you refer. My mother may cast light on these. However, I wonder if there was more than one Julius. There were so many children in that generation.
By getting the history back to Hugh, you would seem to be close to making a link with the US McGimpsey's. From reading some of the other entries, many of their ancestors arrived in America in the late 1700s.
Anyway, thanks again and I will be in touch if I receive more news.
