Peter,
When I started looking into family history I could only find 1 Hugh McGimpsey and it was thanks to my husbands Aunt who recalled names that we were able to link Richards line to ours. The Hugh I have researched was married twice and Richard comes from the 1st marriage we think and my husband comes from the 2nd marriage. In our line now Hugh does not appear although there are records of 2 Hugh births to our Hugh. Both died in infancy. It was common then once a child died to rename the next one with the same name. Since then from church records I have come accross many other McGimpseys but as I said in other messages they are still just more pieces in a huge jigsaw puzzle!!
There probably is a connection between all the McGimpseys if we could go back far enough but records only date back so far. Do you know of any family connections from Northern Ireland?
