Could you be kin to this John McJimpsey buried in Movilla Cemetery in Newtownards, N.I.
Annie McGimpsey of Bangor, N.I. gave me the names on the oldest stone found in Movilla Cemetery, Newtownards, N.I.
I have been interested in it because of the date of John McJimpsey's birth in 1698. He died March 7, 1783. His wife Kathrine Speer was born in 1701 and died Dec. 29, 1779.
They had five sons and one daughter and un-named on the stone. I have wondered if sons of these un-named sons may have came to America in 1770-1775. My GGG-Grandfather John McGimpsey who married Flora Witherspoon came to America when 16 yrs. old. He was born in 1754. Estimating that his father (John or William don't know for sure which) were born about 1730-1732. These men who came to America were Robert, John, William, John(age 16), Thomas his brother about 6. Another brother named William. Probably left brothers & sisters behind in Ireland. The older John was supposed to be a widower. Robert's wife was Mary. Researchers in Scotland seem to think that the 1770's McGimpsey's returned to Ireland about 1700-1740 after being in western Scotland for about 200 yrs. His name was David McGympsie. He was married to Mary Leckie & Anna Muschett. several childen listed in records as Andrew, David, Anna & Agnas. If you ever run across these families in your search please past on the information.
