I believe that the John McGimpsey you refer to was my father's uncle. He was originally from Newtownards and moved to east Belfast as he worked in the shipyard. he was a foreman blacksmith. My father worked with him for about one year in the mid 1930s. During sectarian friction he saved my father from a group of men who mistook him for a member of the opposite community. John was well known and worked in the yard almost all of his working life as far as I am aware.
