Robert,
I do not have adefinate date on Melissa's (Malissa) death but put it before 1860 when she doesn't show up in the census but Moses House does.

Sources have said that Melissa may have been a Scroggins and Joseph's second wife Louisa was a Shaw. Mary Beeg has stated to Jerry McGinty and I that Melissa is a Scroggins and that after her children were made wards of JM Scroggins when offened. This was William and Mary McGinty. They eventually became wards of thier brother John who was Louisa's son.

We are all confused as to which wife was a "Scroggins" and whcich was a "Shaw." Do you have records confirming that Melissa was a "Shaw"?

I show H.T. Bradford as age 20 in the 1879 census with wife Shady (1) and James (5 mos.)

Let me know what you know about the "Scroggins" "Shaw" mix-up.

Thanks!
Annemarie
