John McGinty

I went back over my notes on John McGinty and I found the hole in my theory: John Sr was 68 when he died. John Jr could have decided to move out of the settlement and get land in Pennsylvania leaving his father there; there does come a time when a son needs to move away from his father. Does anyone know if Rebecca had family in PA? Maybe John went with her and her family down there. Anything is possible, I just don't think that an 18 year old would travel to an unfamiliar land without his parents, that is why I strongly feel that the John McGinty in Augusta VA was the father of the John McGinty who bought land in PA and died in North Carolina. As for my theory of the family staying in a settlement in VA first, it does hold some water; after all, settlements may not have kept records and even if they did, I doubt they still exist. Another possibility is that the family worked someone elses land; that could be why no land grants have been found in VA.
