David, my wife is a ggdaughter of Christopher Columbus McGinety. CC was born in Fayette County in 1838, and like your William A he served with Union forces in the Civil War. (23rd Regt KVI and in Co G, 40th Mounted Infantry). He mustered out as a Captain. In reviewing your posting it seems likely to me that CC and William A were related. Both were saddlers before enlisting and their physical descriptions are similar. Also in some family papers passed to me there is a newspaper(unidentified) account of William A McGinety's golden wedding celebration. One has to wonder why this clipping would be among these family papers unless a relationship existed. I will be mailing you a copy of this article within a few days. Bob
