Hello,

I am quite new to McGinty research and have been trying ti find ANYTHING on my g-g-g-grandfather, Robert McGinty. He seems to have eluded nearly all forms of record keeping, as I have only been able to find one (maybe 2) traces of him, plus two pieces of 'family lore'. Here's what I know:

-father, and probably mother, were born in Ireland (per family history)
-born, probably c. 1835, in Arkansas (per family history)
-purchased land in St Helena Parish, Louisiana, 1 May 1861
-had son William Sylvania McGinty. b. 31 Aug 1861, in Tangipahoa Parish, LA (it is next to St. Helena Parish), with wife Elizabeth (Schultz) McGinty
-possibly is the Robert McGinty who enlisted 15 May 1862 at Camp Moore, LA, in the 9th Batt., Co. A, LA Infantry

He does not seem to be from the McGintys of Conway, AR, and I can find no connection to the McGintys of Van Buren, AR...these are the only McGinty families I could find in AR in the 1840s, never mind 1830s. I've also ruled out as possible relatives of 'my' Robert a John McGinty in New Orleans from the 1840s-80s, and also a Robert McGinty in Mississippi from the 1830s-60s.

Does any of this look even slightly familiar to any of you?

Thanks,

Gretchen
