Thank you for your thoughtful answer. In Margarett's application for Cherokee benefits, she does list all of her siblings and Joseph is included in the list. I agree that Stobuck is a possible clue to the identification of Joseph's wife Martha. I have never been able to find Joseph or Martha in a subsequent census...

With all of the AR listings for marriages, it does surprise me that their marriage is not listed. One can speculate that he didn't marry her in AR...
