Was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am looking for the family of James Joseph McGowan (1862-1931) and his wife Ellen Sweeney (1859-1944). They were both from Donegal, Ireland and came to the U.S. in about 1885 with their first daughter Mary Elizabeth. I don't know what city they landed at (Boston, Ellis Island, etc.) but I do know that they ended up in Akron. They had a large family of 8 kids besides Mary they had: Kathryn Ellen (1897-1944), Daniel Francis (1900-1960), James J. (1887-1919), John Edward (1889-1960) Margaret "Maggie" (1896-?) Charles (?-?) and Leo (?-?). Anyway I was wondering if anybody is related to James J. McGowan (1887-1919)? Besides Kathryn he is the only other McGowan to have had kids (besides Dan, who had a daughter that recently passed away-she had no kids). James married a Nell or Helen A. (no last name) or possibly to both. With Nell James had 2 sons James and Daniel Leroy. James (III?) married unknown and had 2 kids James and Kathryn. I have no other info on any of James J. kids and grandkids. I have no idea as to where they lived or live, whether they remained in the Akron, Ohio area or whether they moved away. I am guessing that if James J.'s kids are still alive they would be in their 90s by now (they would have been born anywhere between 1907-1919) if they are still alive. It is more likely that James J.'s grandkids are still alive, but again I dont have a clue as to their age or where they would be now if still alive. Can anybody help me? The only info on this family I have is what was listed on a page in a scrapbook and all it mentions is names, nothing else. Does anybody from the Akron area remember the McGowan family or where they might be now if they are still alive? Mary was a mildly famous State Representative from Ohio from the 1920s until her death in 1980. Hope this isnt too confusing! FYI Im related thru Kathryn McGowan (1897-1944). Thanks in advance!
