McGowan's of Rhode Island & CT
Posted by: Maureen Breen (ID *****6568) Date: April 25, 2010 at 08:06:02
  of 2135

I am decended from Andrew McGowan b. Ireland abt 1845. Andrew is the son of William b. Ireland abt 1797. He has several siblings ( all b Ireland) including: Patrick b. abt 1836, William Jr. b abt 1842, Michael b abt 1832, and Catherine b abt 1843.
These McGowan's settled in RI and CT seemingly going back and forth from Westerly RI to Stonington CT. Catherine marries John McGrane and appears to move to Providence but both are buried in Stonington CT @ Old St Michaels.
It appears that there may be a connection of My McGowan's to James who married Margaret both of whom died in 1916 (James was 65 Margaret 70) as well as a connection to Timothy b 1837 died 1874. I am unclear what the connection is with these McGowan's to my own, but they are all buried @ OSM.
I believe James (m. Margaret) to be the son of James and Rosa (or Rose) but cannot confirm with certainty.
William Jr. b. 1842 dies Nov. 13, 1864 and his death could be connected to the Civil War due to his age and death date.
My Andrew marries Elizabeth Garvin and she dies in 1916 at 68 years. They have six children (including my Andrew):Catherine b 1874 who marries Peter W Rodgers, Elizabeth b 1880 d. 1880, Anna S ., William Kennedy abt 1885, and Lizzie.
Any information is appreciated. Thanks!
