Maureen,

I was born William Scott McGowan after my father, William McGowan. He was named for his father too. My father was born about 1940 in/around North Stonington. He killed himself when I was about two years old. I was later adopted by my step-father when he married my mother and they changed my last name to Thomas.

My paternal Grand-father was in construction and excavation. He built a home in Olde Lyme and passed in about 1985. I wasn't allowed to have contact with him. My mother was Carol Fern Johnson, later McGowan. Her family lived in North Stonington. Mom's family has several signers of the the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence. She was also related to Nathaniel Hale (CT) and Caesar Rodney (of RI).
