I descended from one of the brothers that came to the states from Ireland. James Mcgrayel, as I heard it from his granddaughter, was one of four brother emigrants who came here from Mayo County Ireland in 1845. Patrick was the oldest and James the youngest. I believe their mother was widowed. According to the birthdays I have on the boys, Patrick was around 15 years old followed by Michael, around 12, John about 6 and James 3 years old. I believe I've found record of the ship they arrived on but the ages are estimated on the ship passenger list and are off by three years. The problem I'm having is that the "McGrayel" spelling doesn't appear in Ireland records and the alternate spellings are many. From what I've found though, the Mayo County "McGrayel" sect was spelled McGreal. If you're still out there, I would love to hear more.
