In 1821 Pocahontas County was formed in Virginia, as West Virginia had not been formed at that time. The land area that was Pocahontas County, Virginia became part of West Virginia upon that state's formation June 20, 1863.

Concerning the McGruder line, with residency in Powhatan County, Virginia, the name of my farm was formerly called "Springdale" or "Magruder", as shown on records in the Powhatan County Courthouse. It was named for William M. McGruder, who purchased the land on January 8, 1852.

I appreciate any information concerning William M. McGruder.
