I just posted a request for information on William M. McGruder, and you have already posted it! Thanks. As a matter of information, the area in which William M. McGruder lived, as shown on your forum as being in Cumberland Co., Va., is actually now in Powhatan Co., Va. which was formed in 1777 from Cumberland. The Sublett family, originally Soblet, were among the French Huguenot settlers who were granted land in 1700 above the 'fall' of the James River, which is above Richmond, Va. The area is only about 12 miles from my home.

Also, for those who are interested, Joseph L. McGruder married Elizabeth F. Sublett on December 24, 1852, Richmond, Va. Elizabeth's mother is shown on the marriage record as "Elmira Lee."
