Hello cousin.
I have Harmans, Skaggs and other ancestors from this time who I think were more long hunters than Indian spies - but would certainly alert people in the Clinch valley to fort up when hostilities seemed imminent. The Harmans in particular would move back and forth from the frontier as things got more heated with the Indians. Both the French and English found devious ways to use Indians against our forefathers on the frontier. But of course the Scotch-Irish were encouraged to settle these areas as a buffer - and take the casualties for geopolitics. I think the women had to be pretty tough too.
