Richard Wilbert Hale/McHale

My grandfather died in Crandon WI in July 1960. On his death certificate it stated he was born in Joplin Mo. Which is now part of Jasper Co. I don't know if it was when he was born or not.
Grandpa was born Richard Wilbert HALE October 9, 1871. I have also always heard that the name was McHale and that the family came from Ireland, that is why I am taking a chance with this site. I do not know his parents names. According to his obituary he had at least 2 brothers and a sister.
What i am wondering is ..... Did Missouri have a state census for 1875? where i may possibly find him listed as a 4 year old boy. or at least give me a Father to follow up on in 1880. I thought maybe i may have a better chance trying to find him as a 4 year old rather than a 9 year old in 1880 for the first census. Does this name run across anyones family tree??
Can any one search a census record for me??
Any and all help is greatly appreciated :)
