Archbishop John McHale helped many of his kin to leave Ireland because of the famine and lack of opportunity, My McHales went to Canada and later to Michigan. You might want to read the book The Lion of the West by Hilary Andrews. It tells a lot about the archbishop and his family in Mayo.
