John McHattie died 1923 Edinburgh

My father (Ian McHattie Crombie dob 1917) is named after John McHattie, as was on of my father's uncles (James McHattie Crombie), but has never known why, or whether John McHattie was a relation or not. My father's grandfather was James Crombie, trained as a doctor in Edinburgh and then moved down south to Sidcup. Does anyone know of any connections between Crombies and McHatties? John McHattie was the head gardener at Princes St gardens in Edinburgh and before that at Newbattle Abbey. I believe he had one son who predeceased him.
