Roy,
Hi there. I only a little bit of info in regards to the McElwee to McIlwee name change. My grandfathers name was Patrick McIlwee and he was from Ireland back in the later 1800's. I believe that he came from a family of quite a few brothers. It was either his generation or the previous one where 1/2 of the brothers changed their surnames from McElwee I believe the original spelling to McIlwee. My father who is deceased now since 1985 once told me that. My fathers name was Edward Majella McIlwee and he was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His mother was Lavinia McGladrigan and his father was Patrick McIlwee. Please get in touch with me and maybe we can piece it togther. I still have first cousinns overseas in Britain and I believe some cousins in the States. I look forward to hearing from you!
Kim
