The only words that keep coming to mind over and over are: ohmygosh .. ohmygosh
I've daydreamed of this moment since I was about 12.
Here's some of the information I have:
Phyllis McKane Gannon was my grandmother. My info says she was born in South Dakota in 1920; her nationality was German/Irish; she was a Methodist and a housewife. She died in 1955.
Clifford Ernst Gannon was my grandfather. He was born in 1918 in the Andover area, S.D. He was Scotch/Irish; a farmer who also did some construction work; and a Methodist.
Their daughter is my mother. I was born Oct. 8, 1956 and was released for adoption. I was given the name Mary Jean by the worker who handled the adoption. I just registered on this search site a few days ago. It's the only time I've looked at one, and since I don't know the accepted rules regarding mentioning names, I didn't give my mother's name. I just HAVE to ask one question and it might be difficult for you to answer without a name, but do you happen to know if my mother is still alive?
I don't have any experience with finding family for the first time, <grin> so I don't know what to say now.
I do want you to know this - if you and your family don't wish to go any further than this letter, I'm ok with that. I could go to my deathbed with no regrets at this point, just having had my adoption records released to me and knowing that the people that I see on paper really do and did exist. They're no longer vague, unknown people labeled 'family'. More than anything surrounding my adoption, my deepest desire has been to know what my mother's first name was. Naturally, I was more than a little curious about everything, but that was the one thing that I NEEDED to know.
If you do decide not to go any further than this point, I'd like to ask one favor of you - I noticed that it's been close to a year since you posted here, and I'd like to ask if you would please write back that you received this? It would be so difficult going through the rest of my life not knowing whether this wasn't received or just wasn't acknowledged.
