Hello Douglas Young,
I appreciate the info however was aware of this particular McKechnie line. Around 1860, there were three McKechnie families in the Durham, Ontario area. One of Donald's family, one of Neil,Gilbert,John and Margaret (Isle of Islay)(siblings)who emmigrated around 1860 and made significant achievements in business and political contributions, and finally my ancestors who arrived from The Isle of Mull about 1845. I believe my gg grandfather Neil and his brothers John? and Hector? travelled together and their last name was McEachern or McEachran before adopting the more common McKechnie. This spelling variation was evidenced in land grants from father to son.
If anyone has details of this family, kindly reply.
Stewart McKechnie
