McKechnie family legend

I am trying to trace my husband's 'very' complicated maternal line.... I'm wondering if anyone has every heard of a family legend where a Mckechnie / Fraser union occurred where the woman was considered to have married "beneath" her station. Apparently her family disowned her. The story goes that her brother later visited her and gave her a bag of gold coins unbeknownst to their father who had denied her a dowry.

Any clues....
