I'm glad you liked the information. Your questions- Yes, John and Mary emigrated to Scotland at that time. We were always told that John Jr. was the first of the family to be born in Scotland. They had been in Ireland about three generations. I assume they must have come from the western islands before that.
My information comes from both sources. My grandfather, William Boyd McKechnie, (1867-1965), son of John Jr. had some good family knowledge, some I have researched and some others have done.
From that original family- Robert & his family came to Canada,1842, with also possibly his sister, Rachel. She is listed as marrying Thomas Ferguson, 17th October, 1844 in Dundas. My gr-grandfather, John, came in 1845, also to work in Dundas for a start. He married Agnes Boyd, 1850, in Paris, Ont.and moved to Bruce Co., settling on the Saugeen River,1857. Brother Stephen came with his family sometime in the 1850s and settled at Tara(east of Port Elgin). On this genforum site Ron Currie, Stephen McKechnie and likely lgoodfellow are his descendants. It is Ron who sent me the Grove Cemetery list. He also found the cemetery records for the brother Thomas. We knew he had emigrated to the U.S.and evidently ended up in Galesburg, Illinois
I'm not too good with modern technology but if you e-mail me your mailing address I can send you a hard copy of what I have. Joan
