Mamie, thanks for the info. I viewed Samuel McKee's obit online and as you said, it is very hard to make out the last two no.'s of the date even when hugely magnified.

So according to what I could see it appears the 3rd no. is a 4 according to it's shape and the last no. appears to be an 0 according to its shape but could be an 8.

According to this obit Samuel left Ireland a few months before his majority which should have been age 18. I Googled the age of maturity back then and it was 18 for men and 16 for women in European countries.

So if Samuel McKee was born in 1822 he probably left Ireland in 1839 or 40 so the ship info. I found for a Samuel McKee in 1834 was probably not this Samuel McKee. I did another search for this info. and found this...

New York, 1820-1850 Passenger and Immigration Lists
about Saml McKee
Name:        Saml McKee
Arrival Date:        2 Jul 1840
Age:        17
Gender:        M (Male)
Port of Arrival:        New York
Port of Departure:        Belfast
Ship:        Thomas and William
Family Identification:        30019651
Microfilm Serial Number:        M237
Microfilm Roll Number:        42

The obit says Samuel first settled in Tuscaloosa Co., AL where he where he was naturalized. This obit doesn't say if Samuel was indentured which many did for a no. of yrs. to pay for their passage to America. So I would say it's more likely Samuel came to America in 1840, was indentured for a yrs., then relocated to Tuscaloosa Co., AL. He could have been indentured in Tuscaloosa Co. AL to a lawyer and in this time studied the law and became a citizen by 1848...

I also tried to find Samuel on the 1850 census. I found a Samuel McKee in PA in this time period, he was age 27, born in Ireland. But he was married to a Catherine who was also born in Ireland. I also found a Samuel McKee age 27, single, in CA listed with others as miners. I couldn't find another Samuel McKee or any other McKee in his age range in Miss. or Alabama in 1850 that fit... I rather doubt either of these were Samuel. I also tried to find Samuel in 1860 census with no luck so far either but these searches of census on Ancestry don't always work right.

So thanks for the info. and as I'm thinking you know nothing more about Samuel's ancestry. I'm going to try and search Samuel further to try and see if he might connect to my McKee's in some way, thanks, Kay.
