The record is very clear at the Versailles Cemetery at Mckeesport that John McKees head stone says "Founder of Mckeesport". Then you don't have to go far in research to know McKeesport was Queen Alliquippa, George Washington and Christopher Gist territory.
It very clear on the Jefferson Fry map of 1751 that Queen Alliquipp's camp is located at Mckeesport. It fact it looks like by the map, the camp was located at Versailles Cemetery. Records on General Braddock's expedition clearly shows some of the solders camped overnight July 8 1753 at Queen Alliquipps camp before the attack on Ft Duquesne July 9 1753. That's when General Braddock was shot. He died a day or so later just outside the Gist Estate near Uniontown. So it does look like the left field belongs to David McKee if indeed he ever existed.
You can do two things. Go by the records or guess. It's kind of left field to guess.
Sure John Mckee served in the Revolution. Some other Mckees also served in the Revolution. What seems interesting is not all the Mckees seem to agree with the Revolution and more or less went along with Chief Joseph Brant and Chief Logan. That is why I BELIEVE the McKees are so hard to track down. The same can be said for the Myers family. Some went to Canada after the Revolution.
