Hi,
I just came upon the McKibbin family this AM and I read the information with great interest.
I did the original research on the Thomas McKibbin family in the 1970s. I'm a descendant of the eldest daughter Jane who married Edawrd Murray. Have you read my book. It could be that I missread the name of Bagger in the Holmes County Marriage records. We should double check that.
My book is "A Family History of Murrays, McKibbins, Smiths, Planks, Neffs and Related Families of Elkhart & LAGrange Counties in Indiana." I have a few copies left. They were $5.00 but that barely covers my cost of mailing any more. But I'd be glad to give copies to those who will put it on computer and shre it with me. I have my Fathers family all updated in PAF as we just finished a new book for my Mother's side of the family.
Marilyn, you mention a family Bible with these names. Was the information recorded in the Bible at the time of the marriage or later?
Also the name Irvine is new to me. What is the sourse of this? You also say that Jane wife of Thomas McKibbin was buried in Kosciusko Co. Well, she did died at the home of son David McKibbin who lived near Milford IN. But as far as I know her body was taken back to the Eldridge Cemetery and buried by her husband Thomas. At least her tombstone was there. I haven't been in the Eldridge Cemetery for several years now. I would like to meet you who are intersted in the this Mckibbin Family and take a walking tour through that Cemetery. I believe I can identify many of the graves there.
David's brother Samuel McKibbin also lived near Milford IN. His son James Wesley McKibbin died near Adams Nebraska. He was a Doctor and raised Short Horn CAttle. He died without children and so his heirs were those of his wife and his own brothers and sisters. I have read a lot of his information in Lincoln Nebraska. Unfortunately I did not copy it.
I do have the information from the Thamas and Jane McKibbin family. Buel Mckibbin had the Bible in his possession and copied all the information on the children for me.
Other McKibbins came earlier in the late 1700s. Scot McKibbin who lived south of LaGrange IN in Valentine showed me the many records collected on his ancestors. I hope somone has kept those records. As i recall his ancestors lived in Fayette Co, PA when Thomas McKibbin and family lived in Somerset Co PA.
I wish that all my book was in PAF or Family Tree so we could better share information. I believe some person by the name of Smith in Elkhart, IN entered or at least started to enter my book into a family history program.
I use PAF and Gen-Book to write family history the past few years but I've been working on other lines and if my pacemaker allows I'd like to share my knowledge with the McKibbin family while I still can. I'm only interested in having as complete and accurate of a record as possible. So if I have made mistakes we'll need to change them. In some cases we may have to simply show that primary records do not all agree.
Well, I hope to hear form you.
John
