Helen,

To find information of British servicemen who died in action, goto www.cwgc.org. That is the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. You can input name and find much information.

We have a John McKinlay born circa 1841 & married to Barbara Symison. They lived in Leith, and had 9 known children.
Ann 1864, John 1865, Elizabeth Sinclair 1867, James Symison 1869, George ?, Jessie ?, William 1871, Mary ?, Alexander 1874.

I don't think they match with your McKinlays, but thought it might merge somewhere along the line.

Good luck on you search.

Rae Ellen
