On second thought, the math doesn't work here.
My Agnes Larrigan, nee MacKinley (b. 1836 at Newarthill, Lanarkshire, Scotland). She can't be the 24-year-old in your census, even if the parents' names are the same.
And in the 1861 census, William is living alone, 60 years old, a laborer, living at 145 Main Street, Maryhill, Lanarkshire. So he was born abt. 1801.
Can anybody help?
James and Agnes Larrigan had 13 children, most born in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, although several died as infants or toddlers. Several emigrated to the US or Canada to work as coal miners. Their names:
Janet Larrigan, 1855-1857
William 1858-? (to US or Canada; son also emigrated to CAN)
Thomas, 1865-1896 (died in Colorado coal-mining accident)
Helen, 1873-bef. 1881
Ellen, 1875-? (to US in 1896)
The Canadian and US branches of these Larrigans are about to meet in April and exchange info. It would be great to fill in some gaps in the McKinlay portion, too.
