Wondering if your McLarens may be connected to mine?
My ggggrandmother was Margaret McLaren (1762-1860). She was born at Dunblane, Perthshire, Scotland. Don't know when she arrived in the US but likely after 1772 when her brother John was born. In 1788 she married Robert Kennedy at Johnstown. The couple are listed in the 1790 census for Caughnawaga (image 9 of 9; surname Canady). Margaret & Robert had 6 known children: Margaret, Christina, Jane, William C., John, & James Warren. About 1803 the family moved to the Rochester area. Margaret & Robert are buried at West Webster, Monroe, NY.
Margaret's brother John McLaren and his family also moved to the Rochester area about 1803 and are buried in the same cemetery. John's known children were: John, Anna, James, Margaret, Christine, Catharine, James, Daniel, Alexander, & William.
John McLaren and Robert Kennedy took the oath of allegiance in Feb 1810 at Canadaigua, Ontario Cty.
One secondary source suggested that Margaret & John were related to the James McLaren of Johnstown listed in the 1790 census.
I'd love to know if there is a connection between these McLarens.

Maggie Goldsmith
