I am looking for the ancestors of George Washington McLin (b 17 Apr 1846-Murfreesboro TN; d 4 Dec 1919-McGregor TX.)
According to the 1850 census of Rutherford Co. TN there was a 4 year old George that would fit.
William E. McLin b abt 1814
+Harriett b abt 1817
..John b abt 1839
..James b abt 1841
..Sarah J b abt 1843
..George b abt 1846
..Alace M b abt 1847
GW McLin married Elizabeth Josephine Gardner (b 7 Mar 1853-Dyer Station TN; d 31 Mar 1927-McGregor TX) on 4 Jul 1875. She was the daughter of David Gardner (b 20 Jan 1819-IN; d 12 Mar 1891) and Martha Ann (b 26 Feb 1824-Smith Co TN; m 9 Apr 1840; d 31 Mar 1927).
This would indicate that GW McLin was in Gibson Co TN in 1875. They lived in the Reelfoot Lake area until 1891 when for health reasons (Tuberculosis) the family moved to Bell Co TX. Their son was born in Dyer TN indicating they lived near Dyer, Gibson Co, TN. Family history reports they had a large cotton growing operation in this area.
In 1891 they packed all of their household goods and loaded out at Cairo KY located on the Mississippi River for the trip to Texas. They settled in the new cotton growing area of Texas near McGregor. The Bell Co black-land was rich for growing cotton the business they knew well.
