I am a Leysath descendant.We can trace back to James L. Leysath (b. 5/18 or 19/1800, d. 7/27/1847)of South Carolina and probably the Orangeburg District.He married E. Ann Sistack (b. 12/14/1809, d. 6/28/1888).
We have information that John William Leysath (Leysaht) was the first Leysath to come to America and the year was 1737.He married Ursula Giessendanner on October 3, 1752.Ursula gave birth to Johannes Leysath on September 2 or 29, 1753.Johannes was the first Leysath to be born on American soil. There is mention without comment of a John Leysath.Could he be the John Leysath included in the George McMichael household in the 1790 census?
Do you have any information of the Giessendanner ancestors back to Europe?Any ancestors of the Leysath's would be appreciated. Our information is very sketchy. Some information traces the family to the Swiss border area.
Any references, sources, contacts about the Leysath family would be very helpful.A son of James L. Leysath, John Asbury Leysath (b. 2/2/1828,d.1/15/1877), came to Alabama and settled in Butler County.John Asbury is my great-grandfather.
