Regretfully, I've never been able to establish George McNabb's family, although I know (from various records) that he had come from Chester County, PA, and was on his way to a Quaker meetinghouse near Shepherdstown...but never got there.
Martha Shepherd McNabb was born into a fantastic family. Several were prominent in the migration to the West. Her eldest brother had settled early in the Wheeling area and may account for part of the reason why the families settled just north of that area. Martha, with one of her kids strapped to the saddle behind her, used to fetch salt from the area where they had moved from...over the mountains...because the family felt they wanted it. They were, indeed, "pioneer stock". There's a wealth of Shepherd material. I'm worried that I spent so much time in that direction.
There's a family genealogy written by J.T. Holmes in the early 1900's. He was a decendent of your ancestor who married Sarah McNabb. I passed that book and two shelves of my research on to a younger sister when I thought "age" was becoming a reason to put down my interest in family history. Well, I daresay that the interest continues. I regret my decision, as I now could dig out some work that could hopefully help you.
