What I know of my family.
This is a posting that I made before that has the info from the reply's including one of my uncles. This is about the only info that I have right now. If you have anything else that would go along in this, then please email me or reply to this post.
------Daniel McNece
All I know about my family history is what I heard from my dad. He said that when he was a kid, his grand mother told him and his brothers that our name used to be spelled different. His grandmothers name was Minnie Newcomer. Most of my family lives in Pennsylvainia, in Lancaster county. Lancaster county is know for the Amish. My dad said that he has an Uncle or Cousin (maybe more family) in West Virginia. He also said that they work in cole mines in the mountains. The Spelling of my name is McNece. I don't remember my family doing a history check on the name. so this is all I have right now.
Thanks for your time.
Reply from Elmer McNece:
Hi Daniel. There is some similarity of your family situation and mine. My Grandfather, Barney Lanny McNece (McNeese for most siblings and on his first marriage record) had a son with his first wife who spent most of his life after 1908 in the mines of WV near Fairmont. His name was Dalton Edward
McNece, born 4/12/1885, and he was my dad's half brother. He had a son named Joe Thurman McNece, also a coal miner, and in 1934 Joe had (with an unwed mother) a son named Carol McNece who went to Pa. Several of Dalton's family, including three daughters still live in WV. My I descend from James>John>William>Barney>Elmer, all from Giles Co., Tn. Barney had one brother who spelled his name William Taylor McNeece and James Edward McNeese along with several with this spelling.
Two of my father's brothers disappeared before 1920. They are Clarence McNece,
born 1886, and Barney, born 1895. Clarence wrote a letter from Mo in 1914 and I know nothing further about him.
Many McNeese names appear in Pa from the 1700s. Many are descended from William McNees and Jane McCormick who returned there about 1794, and several other early arrivals.
I have a good deal of info on the McNeese family of Giles Co., Tn and Bill McNeese at www.MCNEESE.com has lots of data on the Quaker McNeese descendents who came to East Tn in the late 1700s.
Let me know if I can be of assistance. Elmer
Responce from my uncle Floyd McNece:
Hi Elmer. In your response to Daniel, my nephew, you mentioned Joe Thurman McNece having a son in 1934 named Carol McNece. Joseph would have been my grandfather. His son, my father, was Thurman Carroll McNece, born in 1931 and moved to the Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania area. I'm interested in any information you have on the family name as I've just begun to search. Thanks.
In response to my Uncle, from Elmer McNece:
Hi Cousin, I first learned about Joe Thurman and his family about four years ago. I visited at that time with his wife and sister(now deceased), three daughters, and others in this large family located mostly in West Va. I have photos, family tree, and intereting stories to share-such as how Dalton Edward came to be killed by his wife's brother with a sugar bowl.
I am in Santa Cruz for a few days and most of my data is in Davis, Ca. I will send you data in about three days on my return. Elmer
