I am looking for information on the families of McQuaid which emigrated to Lisnaree Co. Down in the 1780's. My Great,Great,Great Grandfather was David and was born on the family farm about 1814 and died about 1850. I know the family emigrated from County Monaghan, but that is as far as I have gotten. David's son Patrick emigrated to the US in 1859 and finally settled in Jacksonville, Fla and was the first Mayor of that city. My great grandfather went west and settled in the Salt Lake City area where my granmother continues to live.
Ironically I live in Rochester, NY and grew up and still attend and sing in the Cathedral parish of Sacred Heart. My father is studying to become a permanent Deacon and works in the Pastoral Center for the Diocese of Rochester. He attends St. Bernards Institute which is the old St. Bernards Seminary which Bishop Bernard McQuaid founded. I know somewhere along the line I am related to the Bishop, but haven't found the connection yet. In looking at old photos of the BIshop, My mother states that there is a family resemblance. My Aunt is researching the family from the Mormon Archives in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Does anyone have any info on the Lisnaree connection and if so would you contact me @ firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks, Chris
