We are back as far as 1841 when Hugh McQuaid arrived in NY. He was our greatgreatgreatgrandfather and was born in Ireland. What's confusing is that he was said to be from Tynan, co.Armagh and Tyrone in his obit. One of his sons emigrated in 1833 and seems to have lived upstate where his relative, possibly a grandfather bought property. There are McQ/McGuire marriages aplenty in this branch just like Bernard's. The McQuaid spelling was preferred. Gut? There is a connection. How? No documentation yet except that Bernie's stepmother may have later moved from NJ to Blyn. where they lived.
