my greatgrandfather was also named daniel joseph mcshane. he was born in maryport, england in abt. may of l864 and married sarah agnes laverty, also of maryport. maryport is in cumbria county very close to the scottish border. cumbria is in far northwest england. daniel and sarah and their 2 children, james 2 years and nora 6months, came to the usa in 1891--specifically munhall/homestead, pa. i can't seem to find out anything aabout his parents or siblings. does anything i've described sound familiar? maybe he's related in some way to your grandfather.
