My McShane ancestors were from County Louth,( for sure) and Co. Armagh and Co. Mayo ( I'm pretty sure)...and immigrated to Co. Durham, England.

I know that my great-grandfather, Patrick McShane was born in 1845 in Co. Louth and my grandfather James McShane was born in Brandon Colliery, Co. Durham in 1877. My great-grandfather's father was also a Patrick McShane and was a farmer. I have vague memories of my father saying that we had roots in Col Mayo ( as a kid I thought it was funny since it sounded like mayonaise...and of course this is why I remember it!)...and Armagh...but I haven't made any direct connections. i have several other posts at this website with details of what we know about my great-grandfather's siblings.
