I've just found a McShane in my tree..

Hello any and all.
I've just come across a G G Grandfather Michael McShane in the UK 1881 Census
'Michael Mcshane (widower) - b1818 - Ireland'
He was a miner living in Ryhope near Seaham in England.
Any thoughts as to how I might pursue him back to Ireland, whether the name has links to any particular county or any sites that would be useful to me?
thanks in advance
mick smith
