Hello Paddy:

I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,800,000 surviving rcds for abt 70% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Cos. Donegal and Derry were recently added to the database.

Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 30%.

Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.

Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).

For Manus McShane B 1905-1913, Co. Derry, with a father forenamed Pat(rick), I found 0 rcds. I also found NO rcds of a "Manus" in the rest of Ireland. Are you sure that this wasn't a "pet" name?

For Ann(ie) Cushley M 1904 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Derry, I found 1 civil rcd in 1905, Magherafelt RD.

For ???? McShane M 1905 (exact), Co. Derry, I found 1 rcd for a Patrick in Maghera RD. There appears to be an anomalie in the IFHF database in the exact registration district.

For Ann(ie) Cushley B 1884 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Derry, with the father's forename unknown, I found 1 rcd, 1884, Bellaghy RC parish. Father's forename was Pat(rick). A view of the detailed rcd SHOULD reveal the mother's name.

For Pat(rick) Cushley M 1880 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Derry, I found 1 rcd in 1879, Bellaghy RD. A view of the detailed rcd SHOULD reveal the bride's name. If this matches the mother's name found above, this will validate the record. The view SHOULD also show the parents' names. If so, this MAY push your lineage back another generation.

For Pat(rick) Cushley B ????, Co. Derry, with the father's forename unknown, I found NO rcds within a relevant range.

For Pat(rick) McShane B ???? ditto, I found 2 possible rcds: 1846 Ballinascreen RC parish, and 1860 Kilrea RC parish. Father's forenames were Bernard and Hugh respectively.

Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
