Hi Charles,

No, I'm not from Michigan (I was born in Pasadena, CA [Rose Bowl] and I currently live NW of Los Angeles) but my father, Douglas Clare, and Uncle Jack (John Dryden) were raised in Troy, Michigan by Grandpa Eugene Clare and Grammie Vi (Hazel Violet - nee Murdock). I've only been there twice and the first time was as a 2-year-old (which I don't remember).

Both my G-G-Grandmother and my G-G-G-Grandmother were Hannah McSweeneys. My G-G-G-Grandmother married John McSweeney and one of their sons (don't know which one) also married a Hannah who was mother to my G-Grandfather, John Edmund. So Hannah, Eugene, John, and Kate were names handed down. My G-G-G-Grandparents were born in Ireland around 1836/37/38 and immigrated (due to famine??) to the U.S. Their firstborn, Kate, was born in Michigan in 1859. They lived in Kalamazoo Village according to the 1870 census.

The second Hannah also had a daughter named Hannah (my G-Grandfather John Edmund's sister) who died at about age 13.

I am such a novice at genealogy that I don't know if any of this is any help to you...Feel free to contact me direct. Good Luck, Kati McSweeney
