Michael Sweeney/McSweeny - Poet
Posted by: Ronan Nolan Date: February 23, 2002 at 13:59:16

I am researching the Connemara Irish-language poet and songwriter Michael McSweeny (Micheal Mac Suibhne). I already have a webpage about him at http://www.irishmusicweb.ie/texts/suibhne.html
Hardiman's History of Galway describes him as a genius, but he has almost disappeared from current memory.
He wrote ""Peggy O'Hara's Wedding" in Irish, although John M Synge wrote about an English version he heard sung on the Aran Islands.
Any information would be appreciated.
