McSweeney / Sweeney / Swinney - Tennessee

I am looking for any information on my family. My grandfather was Edward Sweeney, Nashville, Tenn. His father was Edward Filmore Sweeney and his grandfather was William Green Sweeney, born abt 1821 in Kentucky. From a 1850 Census report, he appears in Davidson (Nashville) Tenn with Elizabeth (age 60-Widow born in Virginia), his brother James (born abt 1828 in Kentucky) and his son, JC (born about 1846. William Green Sweeney(possibly McSweeney) was married twice 1) Mary McFarland, 2) Elizabeth Clabber Anderson.

I found a newspaper clipping involving one of his sons (brother to Edward Filmore). The newspaper clipping used Ernest McSweeney. I thought that perhaps it had been McSweeney and the "Mc" was dropped by parts of the family.

Family lore says that that the family originally came from the County Cork in Ireland. A mother and her sons came into the US.

I have plenty of information after William Green, but nothing to connect him with his parents. Would appreciate any help if you have information. I would be glad to share whatever I have with you.

Thank you,
