Eliza Sweeney 1849 Bandon, County Cork, Ireland
Posted by: Roseanne Di Gregorio (ID *****8972) Date: May 12, 2005 at 17:51:09

Our family stories tell of Eliza Sweeney Connery and her husband, Arthur Connery, living in Kirkwood, PA. On their wall hung a portrait of Terrence McSweeney, in his robes as the Lord Mayor of Cork. The say he was Eliza's cousin. When their home burnt to the ground, the portrait was destroyed, along with all of their possessions.

Eliza Sweeney was born in 1849 and baptized in St. Patrick's Church on December 16, 1849, in Bandon, County Cork. Her parents were William Sweeney and Margaret Hurly. She came to the United States as a child in 1857.

We have been so far unable to establish her link to the McSweeney family, or to follow her ancestry any farther in Ireland.

If you have any information that would help me find a link of my great grandmother, Eliza (Elizabeth) Sweeney, to the McSweeney family or any information about this line of the family please let me know.
