I would just like to post an update to my own message about Edie Stevens.

I now know that she and my gg-Uncle had a common law marriage that ended when he found her with someone else...

They had 4 children:
Martha b. about 1877/78
John b. Sept 1878
Liddie b. abt 1882
James b. abt 1886/7

I've found Edie listed as Edith Stephens in the 1910 Elliott Co., KY Census living next door to her son John and his wife Lilly (Burton) Swiney. Notice they've dropped the Mc part of their name.

James is living on the other side of John with the Sam Stephens family as their hired man and then a Ruth Swiney and daughter Alisa are on the other side of the Stephens'. Think Ruth is James' wife as it says that both have been married for 3 yrs.

Their sister Liddie and her husband, John Burton, live on the other side of Ruth Swiney.

John's sister Mary is also living with him and Lilly and their 4 children. However, she belongs to someone else besides my gg-Uncle Jim McSweeney as he had married my Aunt Mary in Dec 1888 over in WV.

Just wanted to update in case any othe Edith Stephens and James McSweeney's descendents are looking for their McSweeney roots. They're really McSweeneys and not Swineys.

Thanks, Lynda Davis-Logan in Ona WV
