Seeking Timothy and Cornelius McSweeney, Bandon/Cork
Posted by: Patrick Hayes (ID *****3167) Date: November 23, 2009 at 08:59:02

My GGGF was Timothy McSweeney unknown dates married Margaret Nevels in Bandon. Among children was Cornelius McSweeney in 1852. Cornelius married to Julia O'Reilly in Bandon. They emigrated to Weston, CT in 1882 along with several children including my GM Mary McSweeney Hayes. Additional children were born in Connecticut. The McSweeney line still lives in southern CT, but the surname was changed to Sweeney at the time of emigration.

I will be visiting Bandon in Feb 2010 with hopes of finding any official record of the existence of Timothy or his son Cornelius. Perhaps I can find ancestry older than Timothy. Perhaps I can find living descendants still nearby.

Timothy may have had siblings. I know of only one sibling for Cornelius, an elder sister Margaret who accompanied him to America. I don't know of siblings for Julia O'Reilly.
