Although the McSweeney Family settled in Co. Cork, They came from Donegal via Scotland via Ireland. They have three (?) castles in Donegal, the largest of which is Doe Castle. When they came south to Co. Cork they changed profession. They became farmers as apposed to mercaneries so they no longer required castles. McSweeneys can be found in abundance from Macroom to Ballyvourney in west Co. Cork (and surrounding parishes).
