I've come across Bernard while researching the McSweeneys in Utica. Were his parents Daniel and Mary? I have a listing in the 1900 census that shows Daniel born in 1865 in Ireland, arrived in the U.S. in 1883. Mary was born in Ireland in 1867 and arrived here the same year. Their children were:
Margaret, b: Oct 1891 in NY
Anna, b: Apr 1894 in NY
Miles, b: Jul 1898 in NY
Bernard, b: Jun 1899 in NY

If this is your family, do you know if they are related to Patrick McSweeney who came over in 1884?

Also, did Bernard have a son named James who was a Syracuse firefighter? If so, I have his obit!

I live in Syracuse and can do lookups for you if you need.
