One of my ancestors-Angus McVicar was born in that same area about the same time, Duncan may be a cousin; I don't know how many McVicars are from there. I didn't find a Duncan in my notes. Our ancestors moved to Canada and Michigan.
We also have Currie's in my line-Hannah Lou McVicar born 1891 married Alexander Currie born 1888.
I know this doesn't help you much but I wanted to let you know I read your post and I am still researching, if I find a connection I will post it.(I've made many posts with my ancestors surnames and had no replies-any clue is better than nothing)
If you find any connection please let me know.
Thanx
Nannette
