Hi Pip - how wonderful to touch base :)

I was recently contacted my a Peter McWhinney in Australia who is a direct descendant of Burnett McWhinney's brother Alexander. He has sent me a whole lot of information about Burnett's brothers and sisters and their families and today he sent me some more information about the family of Arthur Wilson McWhinney - Burnett's father - just brilliant! I have been trying to gather info about the McWhinney's for some years and am lucky to have quite a bit of information about Burnett and Mary Ann's children - which includes their daughters Elizabeth (my great great grandmother) and Mary (your grandmother). My Dad - Burnett Frederick Martin - who sadly passed away in 2008 always spoke really fondly of visits to "Aunty Mary" as he called her when he was a small boy. When we were visiting in the Wairarapa some years ago I made a special trip with Dad to see her house and the memories came flooding back as he pointed to the window of the upstairs bedroom he used to sleep in and looked at the huge tree in the yard he used to climb. I have some information about Thomas and Mary Burt's 9 children including the digitised WW1 Defence Record of their son Thomas who was killed in October 1918. I'd love to know what branch of their tree you come from :) I've made a note of your email and I'll send on as much info as I can from my records and from Peter + a few story snippets from a lady called Anita that I have been in touch with as well via the family heritage site. Let's make sure we keep in touch. Kindest regards and best wishes to you from me :)
